What Drugs INCREASE Your Risk of Dementia (Updated List 2018)

08:58
We take medication expecting it to make us better, or make us feel better. The last thing we want is to take a medication for one thing, and have it make something much more important get worse. If you are taking any of the Anti-Cholinergics as a long-term medication, then that is exactly what might be happening. You might be taking something to help you sleep or to lessen muscle spasms, and what it might be doing in the background is increasing your risk of developing dementia. Do you take any of the medications I discuss? Please leave me a comment below of the drug name if you have been taking one of these meds daily. Here is the list, it is not complete, but contains all the most common drugs: Amitriptyline (Elavil) [high AC activity] Atropine [high AC activity] Benztropine (Cogentin) [high AC activity] Chlorpheniramine (Actifed, Chlor-Trimeton, etc.) [high AC activity] Chlorpromazine (Thorazine) [high AC activity] Clomipramine (Anafranil) [high AC activity] Clozapine (Clozaril) [high AC activity] Cyclobenzaprine (Amrix, Fexmid, Flexeril) [moderate AC activity] Cyproheptadine (Periactin) [moderate AC activity] Desipramine (Norpramin) [high AC activity] Dexchlorpheniramine (Polaramine) [high AC activity] Dicyclomine (Bentyl) [high AC activity] Diphenhydramine (Advil PM, Aleve PM, Benadryl, Tylenol PM, Unisom, etc.) [high AC activity] Doxepin (Adapin, Silenor, Sinequan) [high AC activity] Fesoterodine (Toviaz) [moderate to high AC activity] Hydroxyzine (Atarax, Vistaril) [high AC activity] Hyoscyamine (Anaspaz, Levbid, Levsin, Levsinex) [high AC activity] Imipramine (Tofranil) [high AC activity] Meclizine (Antivert, Bonine) [high AC activity] Mepenzolate (Cantil) [high AC activity] Nortriptyline (Pamelor) [high AC activity] Olanzapine (Zyprexa) [high AC activity] Orphenadrine (Norflex) [high AC activity] Oxybutynin (Ditropan, Oxytrol) [high AC activity] Paroxetine (Brisdelle, Paxil) [low AC activity] Perphenazine (Trilafon) [high AC activity] Prochlorperazine (Compazine) [moderate AC activity] Promethazine (Phenergan) [high AC activity] Protriptyline (Vivactil) [high AC activity] Pseudoephedrine HCl [moderate to high AC activity] Scopolamine (Transderm Scop) [high AC activity] Thioridazine (Mellaril) [high AC activity] Tolterodine (Detrol) [high AC activity] Trifluoperazine (Stelazine) [high AC activity] Trimipramine (Surmontil) [high AC activity] Other drugs which have AC Activity and could pose a risk: Alprazolam (Xanax) [low to moderate AC activity] Amantadine (Symmetrel) [low AC activity] Baclofen [moderate AC activity] Brompheniramine [high AC activity] Carbamazepine (Tegretol) [moderate AC activity] Carbinoxamine (Arbinoxa) [moderate to high AC activity] Carisoprodol (Soma) [moderate AC activity] Cetirizine (Zyrtec) [moderate AC activity] Cimetidine (Tagamet) [moderate AC activity] Clemastine (Tavist) [moderate to high AC activity] Clidinium & chlordiazepoxide (Librax) [low to moderate AC activity] Clorazepate (Tranxene) [low AC activity] Codeine [low AC activity] Colchicine [low AC activity] Darifenacin (Enablex) [moderate to high AC activity] Digoxin (Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin) [low AC activity] Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine, Gravol, etc) [high AC activity] Diphenoxylate/atropine (Lomotil) [moderate to high AC activity] Disopyramide (Norpace) [low to moderate AC activity] Flavoxate (Urispas) [moderate AC activity] Fluphenazine (Prolixin) [moderate AC activity] Furosemide (Lasix) [low AC activity] Hydrochlorothiazide (Esidrix, Dyazide, HydroDIURIL, Maxzide & others) [low AC activity] Loperamide (Imodium) [moderate AC activity] Loratadine (Alavert, Claritin) [moderate AC activity] Loxapine (Loxitane) [moderate AC activity] Maprotiline [low to moderate AC activity] Meperidine (Demerol) [moderate AC activity] Methocarbamol (Robaxin) [moderate AC activity] Methotrimeprazine (Nozinan) [moderate AC activity] Nifedipine (Adalat, Procardia) [low AC activity] Olanzapine (Zyprexa) [moderate AC activity] Orphenadrine (Norflex) [moderate AC activity] Quetiapine (Seroquel) [moderate AC activity] Procyclidine (Kemadrin) [moderate AC activity] Propantheline (Pro-Banthine) [moderate to high AC activity] Ranitidine (Zantac) [low AC activity] Solifenacin (VESIcare) [low to moderate AC activityy] Thiothixene (Navane) [high AC activity] Tizanidine (Zanaflex) [high AC activity] Tramadol (Ultram) [low AC activity] Trihexyphenidyl (Artane) [high AC activity] Trospium (Sanctura, Spasmex) [high AC activity] ------- Join me and let's optimize your health! ------- FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/kendberry.md/ ▶Become a Patron here: https://goo.gl/kJJYws Ken D Berry, MD, FAAFP, is a Board Certified Family Physician and Fellow in The American Academy of Family Physicians. Będzie kardiologia z prawdziwego zdarzenia

03:05
- To zwiększy szanse pacjentów, którzy wcześniej musieli jeździć do Augustowa - mówi Kasprowicz.

Song: May Cause Discoloration Of The Urine Or Feces Artist: Marilyn Manson Album: Smells Like Children [1995] Lyrics: Blanche Wyer: ...6:30 this morning. Barb Warner: I can't hear ya. Blanche Wyer: I woke at 6:30 this morning with a headache. Barb Warner: Oh... Blanche Wyer: I wonder to take 'em or not... Barb Warner: I wouldn't take 'em. Blanche Wyer: I don't know, the headache is heavier than anything else. Barb Warner: It's the first time that you took 'em? Blanche Wyer: Second. Barb Warner: Yeah... Blanche Wyer: I had a little bit of a headache this morning. Barb Warner: I wouldn't take 'em, mom. Blanche Wyer: I won't take 'em now, 'cause I have a toothache that hurts too a little bit. I've taken everything I got, been thinkin' Barb Warner: All that blood pressure medicine you take and stuff too. You shouldn't take those things. You're better off not to sleep then to take the... Blanche Wyer: ? Barb Warner: Oh, my god! No wonder you got a headache! Your pressure's probably sky high! Why don't...You gotta take that every day! Blanche Wyer: I try though... Barb Warner: Are you crazy? Blanche Wyer: It's been 3 days... Barb Warner: That's probably why you have a headache now...Did you take it today? Blanche Wyer: I did this morning, yeah. Barb Warner: That's probably why you have a headache, 'cause your pressure's up. Blanche Wyer: Yeah. Barb Warner: I don't know how you can forget to take it. And when that's the only pill you take... Blanche Wyer: I'm sorry, I have so many pills you'd be surprised. Barb Warner: Well, the blood pressure pill is the most important one. Blanche Wyer: Yeah, I know... Barb Warner: There ain't no other one as important as that one. Blanche Wyer: I got one more and then I gotta get to the store. I got two refills on it. Barb Warner: You only got one pill?! Blanche Wyer: I only take one a day... Barb Warner: Well, yeah, but you shouldn't let 'em get that low... Blanche Wyer: I guess not, but I can take one in the morning and then go get some more... Barb Warner: They're expensive! If you have to pay for 'em... Procardia? Blanche Wyer: No, the other one. Barb Warner: Which ones? Blanche Wyer: I gotta pay for procardia. Barb Warner: Were you taking that every day? Blanche Wyer: Yeah. Barb Warner: Well, that's the blood pressure pill... The heart pill, the procardia. And what's the other one? Blanche Wyer: Ah, H-Y-D-R-O-T-O-N. Barb Warner: Oh, that's something to do with water and... And... Water and, uh, blood pressure. Blanche Wyer: This one tag does say it's for blood pressure... Barb Warner: Yeah, I think it works like a water pill type pressure, but the procardia's the important one. Blanche Wyer: Yeah. Barb Warner: You have to take that every day. Blanche Wyer: Yeah. Barb Warner: You should take that the first thing when you get up... Blanche Wyer: Yeah...I know. Barb Warner: Well, how come you ain't got taken it? Blanche Wyer: I took it yesterday, the procardia. Barb Warner: Well, how come you didn't take it today? Blanche Wyer: I had the headache today... Barb Warner: That's why you have a headache! You gotta take the procardia... Take it now! That's what it's for, your headache! It's to make your blood pressure come down. Blanche Wyer: Yeah. Barb Warner: If you don't you're gonna ha... You'll have a stroke if you don't take it. If you got a pretty... Headache that bad you're gonna have a stroke... Blanche Wyer: I got a headache that bad this morning. Barb Warner: Well, you better go take the procardia right now. Blanche Wyer: I will, I'll take it when I hang up. Barb Warner: You didn't take that other blood... blood pressure pill either? Blanche Wyer: Yeah, I did this morning... Barb Warner: Well, you should take the procardia right now. Blanche Wyer: I'll take the procardia in after nine. Got a horrible morning... Barb Warner: Well, you... Blanche Wyer: I'm glad you can't see it. Barb Warner: Well, how long has it been since you took the procardia? Blanche Wyer: Three days. Barb Warner: How many? Blanche Wyer: Three... Barb Warner: Well, see, that's ridiculous... You better go take it right now. Blanche Wyer: I will. Barb Warner: Then you'll find out your headache will go away. Blanche Wyer: Yeah. I've taken it now, the procardia, just yet. Barb Warner: Any other medicine you're taking ain't that important. You ain't got nothing but nerve pills. They ain't important. Blanche Wyer: I take those every day... Barb Warner: Well, the nerve pills ain't that important. The blood pressure medicine's important.

I'm 35 weeks and have had preterm labor issues for 3 weeks. What can I do about it?

04:07
You mentioned that around 32 weeks you started having issues with contractions but you're now 35 weeks and that's good. Every single day that you've been able to buy your baby is precious and important. The good news is that at 35 weeks now your doctor won't stop you because you've made it to at least 34 weeks. This is the point at which a baby will have the same long term effects as a full term baby but this doesn't mean that if your baby were to be born now there wouldn't be hurdles to overcome. Very important development is happening during these days including your baby's lung development, and their liver, and their brain. If your baby were to be born now you might face issues like breathing, and breastfeeding, and your baby may have issues with growing because they don't eat so well when they're premature. Preterm babies usually have issues with jaundice because their liver is immature. A good rule of thumb if a baby is born premature is to count on them being in the hospital until their due date. Sometimes you're pleasantly surprised and they get to go home sooner. As for these contractions that you're having it's good that you haven't delivered yet. That's a good sign that the contractions that you're having are really uncomfortable, they're irritating, but they're not dilating your cervix to the point where you're in labor. A lot of times you hear people say, I was in labor for five days. Really they may have been contracting for five days or you may have been contracting for the last three weeks but you're not in labor, that's a good sign. The true definition of labor is cervical change over a short period of time, like an hour or so. Once your cervix starts actively dilating then you're in labor. Watch yourself and if you start to have regular contractions then stop what you're doing and rest. Lay down or at least sit down and see if they go away. If you start moving around or keep moving around that will potentiate them and at this point, since you're preterm, obviously that's something you don't want to do. Rest and drink a lot of water because dehydration can also make you contract, and see if they go away. If over 30-60 minutes from the time you started to feel the contractions nothing is getting better or they're getting worse then it's time to get checked out. Preterm labor symptoms include constant lower abdominal cramping, or camping that comes and goes, constant lower back ache, or lower back ache that comes and goes, abdominal tightening, pressure, a feeling like you're leaking fluid, bleeding or spotting, and sometimes women have shooting pains down their thighs associated with contractions. If you feel any of these things then go to the hospital and get checked out. When it comes to contractions until you're 37 weeks it's best to get checked out if you feel like you're having four to five an hour, which is only every 10 to 15 minutes, so they don't need to be that frequent for you to get checked out. Really the only way to know if you're in labor or not is by going to the hospital where they'll check your cervix and see what you're dilated to, watch the pattern of your baby's heart rate, watch your contraction pattern, and then see if your cervix is changing actively over a period of time. They'll probably watch you for an hour or so and then come back and re-check you and if change is seen then you're labor and you'll probably stay and have your baby. But if no change is seen then you can go home reassured that the pains that you're having aren't causing you to be in labor yet and hopefully you'll be able to buy more time and make it to at least 37 weeks. If you just feel like the contractions are annoying but you don't feel like it's time to go to the hospital yet there are things you can do to feel more comfortable while having them. You can have your loved one massage your lower back if you're feeling a little bit achy, take a warm bath before bed to help you relax and that can do wonders for discomfort that you might feel from pregnancy. You can also try a heating pad on your lower back or on your abdomen for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. You can also talk to your OB provider about over the counter medication that's safe to take during pregnancy for just minor aches and pains. Best of luck with everything and congratulations ahead of time on the birth of your baby and if you have any more questions in the future please feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at Facebook.com/IntermountainMoms and recommend us to your friends and family too.
