I’ve taken max alt for several years and I’m the opposite maxalt only works for me when my migraine is a 9 or 10. I love it and has worked wonders for me.
The Migraine Guy (27 days ago)
That's great! I love hearing about medications working!!
Sam B (6 months ago)
Are you sure they BLOCK serotonin? Or do they activate serotonin receptors in the same manner as serotonin (agonists)?
The Migraine Guy (6 months ago)
This is something I've been meaning to make clear. You correct that they act more like an agonist. https://headaches.org/2007/11/19/facts-about-triptans/

The Migraine Guy now I don't drink soda or eat certain types of chili. I had gird at the time and I drank half a gallon of milk on top of the omeprazole to help with the heartburn and I loved strawberry milk and made protein shakes with it. The parts that are life changing is not waking up in the middle of the night in absolute pain and trying to go for a jog to get rid of it. The times I was out and had to leave the people I was with because I was so confused about what was going on. The few times I oddly had a clamp on my head because I read that you could squeeze your head to reduce the pain, which didn't work at all. And the 3 times I almost finished it all together. I don't have to walk around with two maxalt in my pocket and I don't have to pack enough meds when I go on a vacation. Now that I think about it I'm stress free from migraines. I always suggest to people that they should figure out what causes theirs.
The Migraine Guy (8 months ago)
How would you say that your life has changed since the migraine reduction?
Taisha Ortega (9 months ago)
I’ve been on maxalt since I was maybe 14 I’m now 25 . It was the savior I needed . I went through so many medications before they gave it to me also .
The Migraine Guy (9 months ago)
I bet!
Taisha Ortega (9 months ago)
The Migraine Guy one of its really bad two . I’m in a place where the weather is really bipolar so sometimes I feel like a human barometer. I do everything I can before I take them .
The Migraine Guy (9 months ago)
Sheesh. How much maxalt do you take a week?
Taisha Ortega (9 months ago)
The Migraine Guy I’m not sure I keep telling them if it works and is continuing to work then why mess with it ? I know my triggers and when I get a break from migraine. And I know what to avoid and keep in moderation I eat several small meals a day and keep Gatorade by me . They do not listen to me my neurologist gave me a preventative that I found out I was allergic to and it made them worse . I wish they would leave it alone I’m scared to think if I’m gonna end up in the Er with a migraine bag and an IV . I have a son he’s 4 and I need to be able to function without that nonsense happening. I can function on maxalt perfectly .
The Migraine Guy (9 months ago)
Wow, why do they want you off of it?
Kendra Costello (1 year ago)
Hey there. I’m more just looking for clarification. You said triptans are serotonin receptor agonists but then said that they block serotonin from binding. Did you mean to antagonist or are they truly agonists allowing for extra Serotonin binding ? Thanks!
The Migraine Guy (1 year ago)
Nice catch - I need to update these videos! Yeah, Maxalt is an agonist. I meant to say they block the reuptake of serotonin.
billybassman21 (1 year ago)
Smoother for me than Imitrex and it takes longer to work, but in the long run it works as well as Imitex (Sumatriptan). It's worth a try for people that have a lot of side effects to Sumatriptan. The thing I have found with triptans is not to take more than you need. I only need 25 MG of Sumatriptan. 50 works faster, but causes more side effects. Try to take them before it gets bad.
The Migraine Guy (1 year ago)
+billybassman21 very good points. Triptans are such a delicate balance between migraine stopping and side effects from the mg dosage. Thanks for this comment. How long have you suffered from migraines?
Moo (1 year ago)
A lot of the time, it starts with me tensing my face when I'm concentrating or doing a lot of close-up work. That causes a tension headache, and when I drive home in the bright sunlight and hot car, it turns into a migraine. But it feels so good when I dissolve that tablet to feel all my face muscles relax, and I'm able to move them again and not have resting bitch face.
The Migraine Guy (1 year ago)
+Moo haha! I'm always happy to hear success stories! How often does this happen?
TheLatestSounds (2 years ago)
make me feel sleepy and sorta drunk, not quite high but somewhere in the middle :) They work (Take with some other medication too) but im not complaining
The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)
+TheLatestSounds Interesting. BTW, if you need a support group I have a fantastic Facebook group you can join. Just search 'the migraine guy support group'.
TheLatestSounds (2 years ago)
I'm from the UK so yeah it could be different! Did find some forums of people saying they take domperidone with their rizatriptan (already subscribed)
The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)
+TheLatestSounds Interesting, I may need to look into it. I'm not sure it's a common prophylactic in the states. Thanks for watching by the way! Hope you'll subscribe!
TheLatestSounds (2 years ago)
10mg x 2
The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)
Wow - that's quite a unique recommendation! I wonder why they recommended that. The higher salt content in soda would combat being light headed by temporarily raising blood pressure? How have you found the domperidone? What milligram dosage do you take?

DOES ANY ONE GET A ELECTRICAL CHARGE SENSATION IN THE BRAIN? maybe similar to epilesy?
L Albers (4 months ago)
I do but it's usually when I drop a medication almost like it is part of the WD.
The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)
Wow, that sounds fairly debilitating - Feel free to join us over at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/themigraineguy/
REPO RODGE (2 years ago)

The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)
Good question!
Dave f (2 years ago)
I was just prescribed this medication for migraines yesterday with Magnesium 250mg and also topamax 25mgs and had an iv fusion done with a mix of Tortal and zofran and magnesium

The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)

REPO RODGE (2 years ago)

The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)
+David f oh man! Well, welcome to the migraine world! How long have u suffered prior to your diagnosis?
Aminah D (2 years ago)
i take maxalt as well they make me to drowsy
Rebecca Debassige (1 month ago)
Mine make me drowsy to. Other than that I get no other side effects. I do love my maxalt. I'm trying preventative meds because I get them so often. I normally don't go out at all when I have a migraine. I am aware that I just maxed out my dose but, I'm finally feeling relief.
REPO RODGE (2 years ago)
YES ALL YOU SAID AND MORE
The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)
+Khyra Dawson Oh, yes. Exhaustion and very lightheaded. :D
Aminah D (2 years ago)
Do u get body weakness feel drained all the time feeling lightheaded n faint ?
Aminah D (2 years ago)
The Migraine Guy yeah definitely true one med to another I don't know what else to do
Teri Robert (2 years ago)
Triptans are SELECTIVE serotonin receptor agonists. "Selective" is important here. Each of the triptans binds to different combinations of serotonin receptors. That's what makes each one different.
The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)
Good catch, thanks. The devil is in the details. Thanks for watching.
Teri Robert (2 years ago)
You said "serotonin receptor agonists." Left out "selective."
The Migraine Guy (2 years ago)
Yes, that's correct. Did I say something in the video that overlooked this point?
Sarah Lawson (3 years ago)
I have been using maxalt for a few years after a back injury from a car accident that triggered debilitating migraines, I haven't experienced any adverse effects from it and within 15 minutes my migraines are completely gone. I really liked your video because it gave sound information, will be subscribing! 😊
The Migraine Guy (3 years ago)
+Sarah Lawson Thanks for the kind words. And it's always encouraging when prescribed medication does what the doctor thinks it's going to do!
